Where is the case being heard?

Hearings in this case are held in Courtroom 4 on the first floor of the Walter E. Hoffman United States Courthouse, 600 Granby Street, Norfolk, Virginia. The courtroom has space for more than 225 spectators.

How are courtroom spectator seats assigned?

Courtroom seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis at the courtroom door.

How will the court's security measures affect spectators?

All spectators must be seated 15 minutes before the start of hearings.

Visitors enter the courthouse through the building's main entrance on Granby Street. You will be required to walk though a magnetometer and your bags will be screened by an x-ray machine. You will be required to show a photo ID issued by a government agency, such as a driver's license.

For security reasons, you will not be allowed to enter the courthouse with cellular telephones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), wireless e-mail devices, pagers, cameras, tape recorders, laptop computers or any other electronic device. There are no lockers available to store these items while you visit the building. Potential weapons such as firearms, knives, pocket knives, scissors, letter openers, screw drivers, mace and pepper spray are also prohibited and will be confiscated.

Spectators are not allowed to eat, drink, chew gum or read newspapers in the courtroom. Talking during the proceedings is prohibited.

Under no circumstances should you enter the well of the courtroom, which is marked by a short rail in front of the first spectator bench.

Restrooms and water fountains are available on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the courthouse. There is a pay telephone located in the 2nd floor snack bar, and one on both the 3rd and 4th floors near the elevators. Smoking is prohibited throughout the courthouse.
