Driving Directions

From points West:
I-64 East towards Newport News/Norfolk to I-664 South exit (#264) towards Downtown Newport News/Suffolk/Chesapeake. 26th Street/27th Street exit (#6). Keep right at the fork in the ramp. Merge onto 26th Street. Turn left onto West Avenue at the stop sign. The Courthouse is on the left at the corner of West Avenue and 23rd Street.

From points East:
I-64 West towards Hampton/Williamsburg to the I-664 North exit towards Newport News/Hampton. 26th Street/27th Street exit (#6). Keep right at the fork in the ramp. Merge onto 26th Street. Turn left onto West Avenue at the stop sign. The Courthouse is on the left at the corner of West Avenue and 23rd Street.

Parking

A city parking lot is located on 26th Street at West Avenue from the Post Office. If the 26th Street entrance is closed, please try the main entrance by continuing on 26th Street, taking a right onto West Avenue, and taking a right onto 28th Street to the lot's main entrance. The Courthouse is located two blocks down West Avenue from the parking lot, toward 23rd Street.

Parking is also available behind the courthouse building; however, parking is limited to two (2) hours. Some parking is available on the street around the area of the courthouse location, however the 2-hour restriction also applies.

Public Transportation

Bus route and schedule information may be obtained from Hampton Roads Transit, 757-222-6100 and www.hrtransit.org. There is a bus stop near the courthouse at Washington Avenue and 25th Street.

Important Security Information

Visitors enter the courthouse through the building's main entrance on West Avenue. You will be required to walk though a magnetometer and your bags will be screened by an x-ray machine. You will be required to show a photo ID issued by a government agency, such as a driver's license.

Members of the public are prohibited from bringing cell phones, pagers, PDAs, laptop computers, cameras, tape recorders, and all other personal electronic devices into the courthouse. There are no lockers available to store these items while you visit the building.

Attorneys who require laptops for their courtroom presentations must receive prior approval from a judge.
