Local Rules and Standing Orders

Local Rules

The Local Rules are available as a printable document (in PDF format). You must have Adobe Reader software on your computer to read the PDF file. To download the free software, click on this link.

The Local Rules were last amended on March 14, 2007. The amendments were proposed in January 2007, and they took effect in March following a public comment period in which no comments were received.

Amendments to Local Civil Rule 1, Local Criminal Rule 1, and Local Admiralty Rule 1 concern electronic case filing (ECF). The amendments announce that on March 26, 2007, documents filed with the Court must be filed through the Court’s ECF system except as provided otherwise in the Court’s ECF Policies and Procedures manual. This document contains the three amended rules, marked to show the changes that were made.

You may also find the following documents helpful. These were compiled based on previous local rule amendments:

  • A guide to redacting personal identifiers (February, 2005, Local Rule 7 and Local Criminal Rule 47 amendments).

  • Instructions on tracking motions to seal (March, 2004, Local Civil Rule 5 and Local Criminal Rule 49).
