From points West:
I-64 East towards Newport News/Norfolk to I-664 South exit (#264) towards Downtown Newport News/Suffolk/Chesapeake. 26th Street/27th Street exit (#6). Keep right at the fork in the ramp. Merge onto 26th Street. Turn left onto West Avenue at the stop sign. The Courthouse is on the left at the corner of West Avenue and 23rd Street.
From points East:
I-64 West towards Hampton/Williamsburg to the I-664 North exit towards Newport News/Hampton. 26th Street/27th Street exit (#6). Keep right at the fork in the ramp. Merge onto 26th Street. Turn left onto West Avenue at the stop sign. The Courthouse is on the left at the corner of West Avenue and 23rd Street.
Parking
Public parking is available at the municipal lot on the corner of 23rd Street and West Avenue diagonally across from the courthouse. Please note there are a limited number of spaces in this lot and it requires exact change of $3.00.
Follow the instructions on the payment box.
A municipal lot with public parking is also available between 26th and 28th Streets (rate: $1.00 per hour . maximum of $10.00 a day). A two-hour lot is located behind the courthouse on 23rd Street. Additionally, on street parking is available, but it is limited to two hours.
We do not recommend that individuals reporting for jury service park on the street or in the other two-hour limit parking lots.
Public Transportation
Bus route and schedule information may be obtained from Hampton Roads Transit, 757-222-6100 and www.gohrt.com. There is a bus stop near the courthouse at Washington Avenue and 25th Street.
Important Security Information
Visitors enter the courthouse through the building's main entrance on West Avenue. You will be required to walk through a magnetometer and your bags will be screened by an x-ray machine. You will be required to show a photo ID issued by a government agency, such as a driver's license.
All visitors bringing a cellular telephone or smart watch to any Eastern District of Virginia Courthouse will be required to place said device(s) into a Yondr Pouch upon entering the Courthouse. The pouch will be locked by a Court Security Officer (CSO). The pouch contains signal blocking technology such that the pouched phone and smartwatch will not receive any calls, texts, or other outside communication while in the pouch. The visitor’s pouch will be unlocked by a CSO at the Courthouse exit, as the visitor is exiting the Courthouse.
Cellular telephones and smart watches will be prohibited for large events such as naturalization ceremonies, portrait hangings, and investiture ceremonies.
Members of the public are prohibited from bringing any other electronic devices, such as laptop computers, cameras, tape recorders, and all other personal electronic devices into the courthouse. There are no lockers available to store these items while you visit the building.
Potential weapons such as firearms, knives, pocketknives, scissors, letter openers, screw drivers, mace and pepper spray are also prohibited.
Attorneys who require laptops for their courtroom presentations must receive prior approval from a judge.

This Public Notice lists the designated Court Access Coordinators in each divisional office. Access Coordinators are responsible for coordinating appropriate auxiliary aids and services to participants (not spectators) in court proceedings with communication disabilities.
