Central Violations Bureau (CVB) / Violation Notices (Tickets) / Traffic Docket

Central Violations Bureau (CVB)

The CVB is the national center charged with processing violation notices (tickets) issued, and payments received, for petty offenses committed on federal property.

For information on how to pay your ticket (on-line or by mail), please visit the CVB website at www.cvb.uscourts.gov , or contact CVB directly at 1-800-827-2982.

You should not mail a payment to the Court unless you are directed to do so by the Court. Beginning June 30, 2019 all fine payments should include violation number and location code of ticket, and mailed to:

Central Violations Bureau P.O. Box 780549, San Antonio, TX 78278

Violation Notices (Tickets) Information

When a federal law enforcement agency issues a violation notice (ticket), they send the original copy to the CVB, located in San Antonio, Texas. CVB enters the ticket into their database, and tracks the status of the ticket, including payment history, until the case is closed.

If CVB does not receive payment of the fine within 30 days of the ticket’s issuance, they mail the defendant a notice to appear in court before a magistrate judge. This notice is mailed 2 weeks prior to the scheduled court date and time indicated on the ticket.

If a ticket is marked “optional appearance” by the issuing officer, the defendant may choose to do one of the following:

  • Pay the fine before the court date. A conviction will be entered, the case closed, and the defendant need not appear in court.
  • Do not pay the fine, and appear in court on the scheduled date, time, and place to contest the ticket.

If a ticket is marked “mandatory appearance” by the issuing officer, the defendant must appear in court on the scheduled date, time, and place indicated on the ticket.

If the defendant cannot appear in court at the scheduled date and time on the ticket, the defendant must call the appropriate Division to reschedule their appearance:

  • Alexandria Division (703) 299-3311
  • Newport News Division (757) 247-0784
  • Norfolk Division (757) 441-6391
  • Richmond Division (804) 916-2230

If the defendant does not appear in court as scheduled, an arrest warrant may be issued and/or notice sent to the DMV resulting in the suspension of driving privileges.

For additional information, please visit the ticket instructions page of the CVB website, or contact CVB directly at 1-800-827-2982.
