Announcement Regarding Change of Duty Station from Norfolk to Newport News for United States Magistrate Judge Douglas E. Miller.

Monday, September 9, 2024

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia announces a change of duty station for United States Magistrate Judge Douglas E. Miller. With approval from the Judicial Council of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Judge Miller’s duty station will be moved from the Norfolk Division to the Newport News Division of the Court in early 2025.

Judge Miller will remain designated as a Magistrate Judge of the Newport News and Norfolk Divisions of the Court and perform work from and in both Divisions, though his official chambers will be at the United States Courthouse in Newport News. Cases will continue to be randomly co-assigned to district and magistrate judges, just as now, and Judge Miller will remain an integral part of the duty judge rotation in both Divisions.

Judge Miller has served as a United States Magistrate Judge since February 1, 2010. Prior to his appointment, Judge Miller was a partner with the Newport News law firm of Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein, joining the firm in November 1998. Before beginning private law practice, Judge Miller served as a law clerk to the Honorable Rebecca Beach Smith, currently a Senior United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia.
