Closure of Court on June 18th in Recognition of Juneteenth

Federal law establishes public holidays for Federal employees.  [5 U.S.C. § 6103(a)].  These statutory holidays are celebrated through closure of the United States Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia. On June 17, 2021, the President signed a bill establishing a new federal holiday, “Juneteenth National Independence Day, June 19” to be celebrated each year in observance of the anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States. As June 19, 2021, falls on a Saturday, federal agencies will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021. In observance of the federal holiday, the Courts in the Eastern District of Virginia will similarly be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021. (Order of Closure)
